Orchestra Vitae at Guildford Cathedral

Orchestra Vitae at Guildford CathedralGuildford Cathedral greeted us in sparkling sunshine – a great welcome for a great day ahead.   Having been invited to play as part of A Great British Feast with the Wimbledon Choral Society and Cardiff Polyphonic Choir our musicians arrived full of enthusiasm for this project.  After three days of rehearsing Vaughan Williams, Elgar and Walton the orchestra were keen to participate in what promised to be a fantastic evening of British music.

Guildford Cathedral provided a stunning and beautiful venue with its simple but magnificent stonework, ethereal light and calm, elegant atmosphere.    With nearly 300 singers and musicians the atmosphere of anticipation was palpable.

An afternoon of rehearsal, a break for food, drinks and a change into concert dress and we were ready.   The audience began to arrive and the Cathedral filled to capacity producing an excited buzz.

And what a concert – fantastic singing, wonderful voices raised together, a stunning soloist, terrific playing by our musicians and simply stunning music flowing out and around the Cathedral.  It was heavenly!
